I’m Pat, an indie game developer passionate about crafting unique and immersive experiences. My name is Pat, and Scrap Roads began as a personal challenge to create a game that breaks free from traditional design. Instead of guiding players through a fixed narrative, I wanted to offer them full freedom to explore and interact with a living, breathing world. This approach allows each player to shape their own journey and experience, making every playthrough feel unique.
From the start, I focused on building a world that feels dynamic and alive. Scrap Roads is set in a post-human environment inhabited only by robots, divided into distinct classes and communities. Each community has its own unique characteristics, which helps make the world colorful and diverse. Because of this variety, players can expect to encounter different emotions and challenges as they explore different zones. This variety is one of the key elements that enhance immersion throughout the game.
Moreover, I wanted to design gameplay that remains fresh and engaging. To achieve this, I implemented verticality in the world design, encouraging players to constantly adapt their strategies based on the terrain. Additionally, I introduced rogue-like elements to boost replayability. Rather than punishing players for failure, the game rewards them with permanent upgrades and knowledge that carry over to new runs. This system motivates players to experiment and improve without frustration.
I strongly believe in community involvement during development. By sharing every step of the process and listening to player feedback, I aim to create a game that truly resonates with its audience. This collaborative approach ensures that Scrap Roads evolves alongside its community, resulting in a better and more enjoyable experience for everyone.
